Rice ball – a familiar dish but special in Vietnam

In normal meals of Vietnamese people, rice always is an indispensable dish and rice ball- a nourishing gift for breakfasts is sold common in small alleys in many places such as Hanoi, Sai Gon, Phu Tho, etc.

 

Rice ball is an interesting and special product of rice and when speaking to it, people usually think of poverty. “Com”  is a daily dish in each main meal of Vietnamese (lunch and dinner) and especially it is considered as a nourishing, delicious, and convenient dish for farmers when they have to go far away from their home a little, they can not come back home in time of meal. It makes sure that you can feel wonderful flavor of rice ball.

Rice ball is very various and attractive with many shapes and tastes. You can eat rice ball with sesame and salt, shrimp, sausage, and so on. However, rice ball with sesame and salt often is the first choice of customer. Moreover, with the development of science and technology, and especially the talent of cooks, rice ball become more and more attractive. May be no one can explain why we can not eat a dish except for “com” forever so “com”  is an indispensable dish in life of Vietnamese. Today, rice ball is a wonderful dish for people in rush they do not have much time to sit down and enjoy a usual meal.

Each dish requires some own techniques and “com nam” is, too. To make a soft and white rice ball, it is made with some strict standards about quality as well shape. The cook is skillful in cooking, rice is chosen is soft and aromatic rice and especially rice ball is wrapped with banana leaves, they will become more delicious.
